Kite flying festival marks the celebration

The sky of Graphic Era was painted with hundreds of colourful kites amid bursts of  popular songs like Udi Udi Jaye and Dheel De Dheel De today. The occasion was “Fly a kite fest” organised in Graphic Era University on the occasion of  Makar Sakranti. Students of Graphic Era Deemed to be  University and Graphic Era Hill University participated in the competition with kites made in the shapes of huge Eagles and cartoon characters like Doremon, Nobita, Benton and super heroes of Avengers. More than 200 teams of student participated in the competition. The Faculty members of the University and the students were seen flying kites and competing with each other enthusiastically. There was a huge participation by the girl students as well. Traditional kite flying songs playing on DJ and enthusiastic shouts of  the students created a vibrant and fun filled atmosphere in the University campus.

Prof. Rakesh Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed to be University, inaugurated the fest by flying the first kite.  Addressing the students the Vice chancellor said that events like this help develop team spirit amongst the students.

The team of B. Tech (Mechanical) students, Shubham Bakhuni and Hardik Parashar bagged first position in the competition by flying their kite unhindered for more than three-an-a-half hours. Second position in the competition was clinched by the team of B. Tech (CS) students, Dipesh Negi and Vishal Thakur. The award for the most creative kite was given to the team of Petroleum Engineering student, Umesh Chandra and Mechanical Engineering student, Jay Prakash for their 4 feet long Eagle shaped kite.

Event Coordinator, Mr. Sahib Sablok said that all the winners will  receive their prizes during the Republic Day celebrations in the university on January 26.
