State’s first Bravery Wall inaugurated in Graphic Era

Graphic Era builds the State’s first Wall of Bravery dedicated to our gallant soldiers. Inauguration by Tourism and irrigation Minister

Graphic Era has become the first institution in Uttarakhand to raise the ‘Wall of Bravery’ in as a memorial to our brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice of their life for India. The Wall of Brave was inaugurated by Mr. Satpal Maharaj, Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Irrigation, On Sunday, the 11 June, 2017. The wall has glass mounted pictures of Victoria Cross recipient and 21 Paramveer Chakra recipients.

Wall of Bravery has been built  under the ‘Vidyaveerta’ Campaign of the HRD Ministry Government of India. HRD Ministry has urged all the universities to raise such bravery walls on their campuses to honor the brave men and women of India and give information about these warriors to the young generation. Graphic Era University is the first university to act on these directions and has created the first of its kind, on its campus.

Addressing large gathering of ex –army personnel, guests , faculty and staff the minister said that this is the first wall of its kind in Uttarakhand and GEU has taken a great initiative in paying homage to these martyrs. He also said that this initiative of Graphic Era has become source of inspiration for the State Tourism Department also. The department will also construct a similar walls at all the tourist spots to inspire people and tell the youth about the great sacrifices made by these men in uniform. He also narrated some anecdotes from the life of the great Victoria Cross recipient Late Darwan Singh, whose dream was to bring railways to the hills and open colleges there.  He expressed his desire to have war memorials at various places in India, just as there are various such memorials to remember soldiers in Europe.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Patron of Graphic Era Group, Shri R. C. Ghanshala, said that this is a start of a new tradition at Graphic Era to teach our new generation about many sacrifices the warriors have made to safeguard our country and to preserve its Graphic Era University, Vice Chancellor, Dr. L. M. S. Palni said that this is the first bravery wall in Uttarakhand.  Speaking at the event along with information about to Major General (Retd) O. P Soni said that giving information to people about such warriors helps in cultivating patriotism in people. Brigadier (Retd) Harshpati Thapliyal and Brigadier (Retd) V. N. Chaturvedi were also felicitated along with Major General Soni.
