Tissue Culture Training Programme Inaugurated in Graphic Era

A seven-day Tissue Culture Training programme was inaugurated in Graphic Era University on 3 Jan, 2017, under the aegis of Department of Biotechnology, Graphic Era University. The department is supported by Uttarakhand Council of Biotechnology (UCB) in this endeavour.

The training programme is being conducted with the active involvement of students, research scholars and faculty members from Graphic Era University , Govind Ballabh Pant Engineering College, College of Forestry, Ranichauri, HNB Garhwal University ,Maya Institute and Tula’s Institute . The programme will be concluded on January 9, 2017.

Dr. M K Nautiyal, Director, Uttarakhand Council of Biotechnology, inaugurated the programm . In his address to the guests and participants he gave his best wishes for the success of the Training program. The function was attended by Dean, Wildlife Institute of India, Dr Gopal Rawat, Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era University, Prof. (Dr.) B V Babu, Dean, Department of Biotechnology, Dr. L.M.S Palni and Head Department of Biotechnology, Dr. Ashish Thapliyal and all the faculty members, staff and research scholars of the department.

Dr. Manu Pant Badoni conducted the training programme and gave presentation on the objectives and utility of the training. The  inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks by the Prof (Dr) Ashish Thapliyal.


Graphic Era organizes ‘Fly a Kite Fest’ to mark the festival of Makarsakranti

Graphic Era University campus was resplendent with the colorful kites  soaring high in the sky, on the occasion of Makarsakranti.  The University organized “Fly a kite fest” competition for the students of Graphic Era University and Graphic Era Hill University. The enthusiastic kite flyers could be seen tugging  at their kites  to soar them higher  and steering them clear of the other kites in the sky ,  to outdo one another. Not just students, but a great enthusiasm was also seen among team faculty members and officials who also participated in the event. More than 200 team, consisting of students, 12 faculty members and 7 officials’ team participated in the competition and displayed their skills in kite flying.

DG beats based on the theme of kite festival, “Kata re kata re” and other such songs were played that created an environment of festivity that added to the celebrations of Makarsakranti. The event lasted three hours.  The event witnessed some students trying their hand at kite flying for the first time and yet displaying good technique; an IT student Gauri showed her kite flying skills and left the audience jaw dropped. A photography and creative kite making competition was also organized where students, faculty members and other officials also participated.

Prof (Dr.) B. V. Babu, Vice Chancellor,  Graphic Era University inaugurated the kite festival by flying the kite himself.  In his address to the participants and guests he said that such activities inculcate team spirit and healthy competition that help the students  in  their overall personality development.

The winners of the competition are:
First Prize: Team of Rohan and Abhishek -  B.Tech CS . Their team was able to save their kites from being entangled by other kites,  for the longest time duration of one and a half hour and for soaring it highest in the sky.

Most Creative Kite Prize: This prize was bagged by the team of Akshay Chaudhary and Gaurav Khanduri from BHM who made beautiful handmade paper kites. Best Photographer of the Event Prize:  Anshuman Pokhriyal, Student of B.Tech Bio-Tech was declared as the best photographer of the event among 200 entries received. According to Mr. Sahib Sablok, the convener of the event, the prize distribution ceremony will take place on Republic Day.


Two days’ international conference on hotel management begins at Graphic Era

The two day international conference on Hospitality and Tourism organized by School of Hotel Management and Hospitality, under the aegis of Graphic Era University began today at Graphic Era University Campus. His Excellency, the Governor of Uttarakhand Dr K K Paul inaugurated the conference. The theme of the conference is “Trends, Issues and Women in Hospitality and Tourism industry. The conference would hold deliberations on the issues and challenges faced by women and emerging role of women in the field of Hospitality and Tourism.  The conference would germinate new ideas on various emerging trend, issues pertaining to Hospitality and Tourism Industry.

The conference is being attended by Dr. Sudhir Andrews, Executive Director Skill maker training services, Dubai , Mr. Laurent Guirad, Director Programme, Vatel University, France  well-known chef and NDTV panellist, Neha Lakhani, chef Ashay Dhopatkar, consultant chef, Prof (Dr.) S.C Bagri, , Ms. Evgeniya Zharikova, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General –UCOST, Dr. Durgesh Pant, Director USERC, various research scholars, academicians and industry representatives and many delegates from Taylor’s University Malaysia .

Deliberations of the First day of the Conference:
The Governor Dr K.K.Paul in his inaugural speech stated that according to an international survey, the tourism field in Asia is expected to grow at a fast rate of 6% each year. One expects similar growth trends in Uttarakhand as well. He further added that for the growth of any country or state, it is important that the citizens, especially women should not only be educated but also acquire skills for a systematic growth for fostering better employment opportunities. He said that economic stability is very crucial for women in order to empower them. Appreciating the move of organizing an international conference by Graphic Era University, he said that such an initiative would definitely open new avenues for promoting tourism industry in the state. The governor called this conference as useful and expressed his hope for exploiting all avenues and opportunities in the field of tourism and hotel industry of the state and provide a directional growth that in turn will impact the GDP. Marking of new tourist destination and strengthening basic facilities along with more involvement of trained women and providing them with new challenges and opportunities is the need of the hour. This will give women an opportunity to play their part and be motivated to excel in tourism and hotel industry.

Prof (Dr) Kamal Ghanshal, The hon’ble Chancellor of  Graphic Era said that according to a survey more than 75% of the people from hilly regions have migrated. Among the 25% left, 75% of them comprise women and children. He said that Graphic Era University with the help of expert groups would like to adopt these villages and develop these houses into resorts for promoting tourism and employment. Tourists coming from different parts of the world will get an opportunity to stay in these homes and enjoy the pollution free nature of Uttarkhand hills which is also known as second Switzerland. Many students from different colleges offering Hotel management course, that includes Graphic Era University, are getting their degrees and later on move abroad to work in 5 star hotels. However if  ‘ Home Stay Resorts’ are developed in the state, many students will remain in the state itself and the migration issue can also be dealt with this kind of a perspective. The Chancellor also said that the department of Hotel Management will also provide education in tourism industry.

Dr. Sudhir Andews, Executive Director of Skill Makers Training Services, a company based in Dubai, said that things are changing at a fast pace and we also need to change accordingly. The prospective professionals in this field are going to be judged on the bases of higher education along with their expertise and behavior towards guests.
Advisor Chef Prof. Dr S. C Bagri said that Uttarkhand which was earlier known among the tourists as a place of religious attractions is now becoming a major tourist hub for health conscious people. People associated with hospitality and tourism should get benefit out of it. Renowned Chef and expert panellist on NDTV, Neha Lakhani spoke on increasing number of women getting associated with hospitality industry. Laurent Guiraud of Vatel University, France, said that hospitality exists in all fields and more than 13% of renowned professions are associated with hospitality. Prof Dr B. V. Babu , Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era University said that present times demand equal importance to education and skills development so that so after finishing studies the students get placed. Prof. Dr Sanjay Jasola ,Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era Hill University the future is all about internet and new techniques and people need to prepare themselves accordingly. HOD, Hotel Management, Dr Vinay  Rana said that in order to increase the number of women on top positions, new policies are need at national and international level. Prof. Dr M. P Singh was the convenor of the program. All faculty members, staff and students of hotel management attended the conference


Graphic Era Students win Essay and Painting competition prizes

The Government Uttarakhand observed The 28 Road Safety week from 9 January-15 January .Under this event interactive sessions between police and students about road safety rules, presentation of the different measures taken up by the police department  to reduce the rate of road accidents , in collaboration with the MDDA and the PWD were held. Documentaries on road safety were also shown.  Essay competition on road safety, painting competition and photography competitions were also organized. Large number of students of Graphic Era University also took part in the competitions and won many prizes:

The Prize distribution ceremony was held at the Survey of India auditorium in Hathibarkhala.  The Governor of Uttarakhand, His Excellency Dr. KK Paul was the chief guest at the event. He gave away prizes to the winners of the various activities organized during the Road Safety Week.


Ms. Emily Landsiedel Creative Writing Expert and Mr. F. Peter Landsiedel The Legal Expert from America deliver lectures to Graphic Era students.

Ms.Emily Landsiedel of the East Helena Public School, Montana, USA  was the expert speaker at the workshop on  “Writing Narratives and Plot Triangle” organized by Graphic Era Hill University for the Department of Journalism& Mass Communication and the department of English. In her lecture Ms.Emily stated that in order to make any fiction interesting the writer has to keep on adding problems in the protagonist’s life so that the reader is more tempted to read the story. Describing story writing as a triangular structure Ms. Landsiedel said that after introducing characters in the composition stage the writer invests maximum time in the rising action stage where problems are introduced until it culminates into the climax, where the character faces the problems, and thus is followed by the falling action and the resolution stages where the writer gradually winds up.

Mr. F. Peter Landsiedel, a Montana based lawyer  was the expert speaker at the workshop on “ Fundamentals of American Judiciary System” organized for the students of the School of Law and BBA.  He spoke about the American Judiciary system. Mr. Landsiedel further enlightened the students about Federal Taxation Code, the American Judiciary system, trial courts, common laws, contract drafting, letter and negotiation.

A short question and answer session was held at  the end of the session in which students resolved their queries. Head of the Departments and faculty members were also present during the workshop. The workshop was hosted by Ms. Ankita Sheel, Ms. Manmeet Kaur and Mr.Nitin Simha Vihari.
