GIRL POWER RULES

All Girl Culinary Team from SOHM, GEU has bagged the first position in IHM Young Chef Competition 2017, held on 31 March at IHM in Dehradun. They competed against 10 teams of North India. The winning team consisted of Tenzin Choki and Ms Raveena Tandon of BHM Program of SOHMH.
Students prepared Bamboo Dum Biryani with Keema Chaaap, Tri flavored yoghurt and Choco-Orange Mischief on bamboo island to impress Chef Manjeet Singh Gill, Corporate Chef ITC Welcome Group Hotels. The award was presented Honourable Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand -Shri Satpal Maharaj. GEU congratulates the proud winners.


Kashmiri cuisine workshop in Graphic Era University


School of Hotel management & Hospitality, Graphic Era University conducted a Workshop on ‘Kashmiri Cuisine’ on 7 April, 2017. The workshop was successfully conducted by Chef of Kashmir origin “Chef Rahul Wali” and he demonstrated the preparation of Kashmiri delicacies. He also explained to the students that the traditional food of Kashmiri cuisine is known as “Wazwan” which is prepared by both Hindus and Muslims residing in the region of Kashmir.


During the workshop, traditional Kashmiri dishes such as Rogan josh, Sanankalia, Mooj raita, Nadir churma, Dodunpundin chutney etc. were prepared and their origin and recipes explained to students of Hotel Management. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Chandramouli Dhaundiyal. According to him that the workshop was very useful for the students, as it was helpful in knowing various essential ingredients of Kashmiri cuisine.

Prof. (Dr) Vinay Rana-HOD Hotel Management said that the students should know about regional cuisines and these workshops  play an important role in knowing and understanding these regional cuisine and the cultural diversities of our country.


Guest Lecture by Prof (Dr) Valdiya on environment conservation

The Department of Biotechnology of  Graphic Era University organized  a guest lecture on the topic ‘Kedarnath Tragedy: Lessons learnt’ on  7 April,2017.  The esteemed guest speaker was Padma Bhushan recipient, Prof K. S. Valdiya (Honorary Professor), Jawahar Lal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore and former Vice- Chancellor of Kumaon University, Uttarakhand. The main objective of the lecture was to create awareness among the students about the causes and consequences of Kedarnath tragedy.

 In his address Prof. Valdiya said that Himalayan region comprises the shattered rocks and several tectonics faults that lead to landslides and in most cases these disasters are manmade because there is too much interference with nature , through unplanned construction, building dams, digging tunnels, broadening roads and mining, building resorts and hotels in the hilly  and disaster prone areas.  Prof Valdiya also said that “the more unplanned construction we do on the flood plain; the more the mountains will crumble and bring disaster to mankind.” With the rapidly changing environment, there is unequal distribution of rainfall over hilly areas which lead to frequent cloudburst. Giving suggestions and instances on conservation of environment, he said that engineers are perceptive and sensitive about nature and are doing planned construction by creating drainage network over the landslide prone areas of Nilgiri Mountains in Southern India.

Speaking on this occasion, Chancellor Graphic Era University, Prof R. C. Joshi advised the students to follow the mantras of environment conservation given by Prof Valdiya. Many distinguished members of the University  present on this occasion were;  Director  General of GEU and Director- TBI, Prof. V. K. Tewari, Dean Biotechnology Department, Prof L.M.S.Palni,  Head of department, Dr. Nishant Rai , faculty members and students Prof. Thapliyal gave the Presidential address and Dr Manu Pant was the convener of the event.

Prof (Dr) L.M.S. Palni, appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era University

World renowned Biotechnologist, Prof. (Dr) Lokman S. Palni has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era University.  Professor Palni  took over the charge on 14 April, 2017.  Professor has done his Ph.D. from the University of Wales, Britain and has over 44 years’ of  distinguished career in research and academics in the field of Biotechnology, in India and abroad. He has been awarded post-doctoral Ph.D. from Australian National University. Prof. Palni is also the  Elected Fellow of INSA, NAAS, NASI & International Society of Plant Morphologists, and the  member of New York Academy of Sciences.

Professor Palni has been involved in research and growth  of Biotechnology in the country and in the state of Uttarakhand. Professor Palni has also held the position of Director of G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development, Almora. He has also served as Lecturer in Kumaun University, Nainital, and as Research Faculty in the Australian National University, Canberra and has brought many laurels to the nation. Professor Palni has more than 350 publications and books   to his credit and has supervised 24 Ph.D. scholars in India & Australia.

Soon after taking over his duties as the Vice Chancellor, Dr Palni addressed the Heads of the Department and faculty members and emphasized on promoting research work and shared his vision of making the Graphic Era University students industry- ready  and taking the University to new heights of excellence in all fields. The Faculty, the staff and the students of Graphic Era University congratulate Prof.(Dr) L.M.S. Palni.


Musical Magic By Pankaj Udaas And Farhan Akhtar

The annual three day, Grafest-2017, organized jointly by Graphic Era University and Graphic Era Hill University, will begin from 21 April. The fest will witness plethora of competitive activities, ranging from robot-making, bridge-making, management tactics, Junkyard to cultural events during the daytime. The evening of 21 April Graphic Era University campus will resound with the gazals of India’s renowned singer, Punkaj Udaas and the evening of 22 April will witness the adrenalin rousing performance of  Farhan Akhthar, the actor and singer.

In Grafest- 2017 students from various universities of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar-Pradesh and Uttarakhand will showcase their talent. At 7pm on 21 April the king of Gazals Pankaj Udaas will mesmerize the audience with an evening of Gazals. On 22 April, famous actor and singer Farhan Akhthar will captivate the audience with his renditions.

A DJ night will be organized on the last day of Grafest. Along with the opening act of DJ Van Moon, N.Y.K and the artists of Lost Stories will enthrall the audience on 23 April. The joint event of Graphic Era University and Graphic Era Hill University has been given its final shape and the staff and the students of Graphic Era are eagerly awaiting the events.


Graphic Era Getting Transformed Into Industry Ready Core Engineering B.Tech Programs


Graphic Era University,” has started an initiative of Industry Collaboration with TATA Technologies for introducing industry integrated curriculum in engineering disciplines of core sector like Mechanical, Automobile, Electronics, Electrical & Information Technology.

A workshop to this effect was organized on 19 April , 2017. The expert speaker at this event was Mr. Pushkraj Kaulgud, Associate Vice President, Tata Technologies. In his address he stated that through this center students will have industry integrated exposure on real life projects with the latest and future industry technology tools for design, development and analysis used in major global OEMs. This center is equipped with high end Industrial workstations, Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing, Computer Aided Engineering, Product Lifecycle Management, and Virtual reality tools through which students going to acquired skills of design & development techniques.

Prof (Dr.) L M S Palni, Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era said that before July 2017, another four Industry integrated technology centers will be established as part of this initiative for “Building the next age Engineering Professional” through Industry Collaboration which can be part of the global talent pool. These efforts are focused on improving the employability of fresh graduates by training them on the skills and competencies required by Industry through industry based course modules and environments.

Prof (Dr.) Sanjay Jasola, VC, GEHU said that under this initiative, Tata Technologies experts are assisting Graphic Era to provide industry exposure to students to the latest cutting edge technologies in Industry. Also, the students are having access to an online learning platform for unique set of Industry oriented engineering course modules. Further, Prof Pravin Patil, Head, Mechanical Engineering updated that the Graphic Era students are very much excited about this initiative and looking forward for good industry exposure and skill through this high end industry ready Labs.


Three Day Grand Festival Grafest- 2017 Begins At Graphic Era University

Graphic Era’s annual fest, Grafest began from 21 April with an impressive inauguration ceremony. The fest was declared open by the Chancellor of Graphic Era University Prof( Dr) R. C. Joshi , , Graphic Era University inaugurated Grafest 2017. Speaking at this occasion Prof. Dr Joshi said that in order to break the monotony of day- to- day routine, such events are necessary to bring fresh energy among youngsters and enhance their potential. He added that such technical competitions provide an opportunity to boost creativity and innovation.

The Vice- chancellor of Graphic Era, Prof (Dr) Lok Man. S. Palni , In his address to the faculty and the students said that this year is a milestone year for the university as it is the silver jubilee year for Graphic Era and we have a glorious past behind us and a promising future ahead.

The first day of the fest witnessed an entertaining cultural event, in which the students of both Graphic Era University and Graphic Era Hill University Dehradun. Bhimtal along with students from different cities of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttrakhand took part in different competitions.

Highly innovative and fun filled technical competitions were also held, like Robo war, bridge making, building and parachute making. Along with this, cultural and managerial competitions also began in full swing. In the first phase of “Robo war”, students from various universities and institutions showcased control, coordination and strength of their Robots. Teams of two robots competed with each other. The robo fight was so thrilling that the robos almost fell outside the fighting ring. In ‘Build the Bridge’ competition, four teams showcased their bridge making talents and techniques. In the first round of ‘Junkyard War’, the young minds that passed the quiz round had to make a parachute from polythene that could make an egg land easily on the ground without breaking it. A total of 14 teams participated in this tough competition. In ‘Junkyard War’ the students had to make a car from waste material that could run with the help of magnets. A total of 85 students participated in cryptograph competition of coding and decoding of computer language.

In the competition, ‘Fun with Cartoons’, the students made several cartoons based on the theme of national and social issues. Prior to this round Kavya Tripathi, Srishti Negi team and Sukhpreet Kaur and Divya team were ahead in the competition. In the competition, role camera action, sports quiz, musical quiz, students took active participation and enjoyed it. In Mason vs Engineer competition the participant made houses, cars etc that left the audience surprised.

The youngsters were seen taking active participation in the managerial competition like ‘tick tak toe’ and quiz. In the shipwreck competition , students were given several difficult situations and hurdles by which their skills of overcoming crises were judged. More than 150 students participated during these competitions. In the band war competition participants had to prepare brand logos for different brands . In its first session, almost 95 students could not make it to the first round. During the recycle reuse competition the students made products out of waste material. During this , a stimulated United nations model was also organized where students represented different countries and discussed on various social and political issues.

Apart from this, students of mechanical Engineering Department exhibited cars made by them. The students of civil engineering department, made bridges and exhibited different technologies. Followed by band war, beat boxing, many cultural programme, like dance and singing competitions took over the stage.


Pankaj Udhas leaves the audience spellbound in Graphic Era

The King of Ghazal, Padamshri Pankaj Udhas, gave an enthralling rendition of old and new songs that left the audience mesmerized through the evening, on the first day of Grafest; Sham-e- ghazal He sang his popular songs that elicited rounds of applause from the audience. The magic of his voice was so enchanting that the audience did not leave their seats till the very end of the program.

The air in Graphic Era University campus was filled with the melody of Pankaj Udhas’ songs. His popular song, Chithi Aaii Hai Aaii Hai Chithi Aaii Hai , Chithi Hai Vatan Se Chithi Aayii Hai, set the tone of the evening for the Sham-e- Ghazal. He was hugely applauded by the audience for his song, Aur aahista kijiye baatein,dhadkanein koyi sun raha hoga,.. Lafz girne na paayein hothon se, waqt ke haath inko chun lenge, and Hui mehngi bahut hi shraab ke thodi thodi piya karo….Hui mehngi bahut hi shraab, Ke thodi thodi piya karo. For his every melodious performance audience cheered enthusiastically.. Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera, Sone Jaise Baal, Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera, Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera, Sone Jaise .. to jiye kaise bin aapke , jiye to jiye kaise bin aapke .. were some of the evergreen songs that held the audience captivated.

GRAPHIC ERA SETS ANOTHER RECORD

Dehradun, 22 April. Having already set two world records in a total of three landmark achievements, the faculty members and students of Graphic Era University have set a new record. Within a short period of 2 hours and 41 seconds, the Hotel Management Department of Graphic Era University made 521 flavours of salads and set the fourth milestone record in their name. Soon after setting the record, the students were jubilant and celebrated the achievement. Experts’ reports along with documents have been sent to set Limca Book of records

In the presence of several government officials and investigation of experts, the new record was announced, this afternoon. President, Graphic Era Group, Prof. (Dr.) Kamal Ghanshala gave award money of Rs,51, 000  to the team of students who set the record. Appreciating the efforts of the achievers, he said that every year Graphic Era produces thousands of successful professionals and the university is known to provide a competitive platform that makes them successful and ready at the International level. It is these efforts that have  resulted in setting this fourth record.

Prof (Dr) Vinay Rana HOD, School Hotel Management, said that a total of 521 unique and different flavored salads have been prepared using variety of ingredients that set them apart from all the salads of the world. This included vegetarian and non-vegetarian salads. Prior to set this record, the faculty members and students had done an in-depth research on various types of ingredients and varieties, for more than three months. This team of Hotel Management department had done months of research to achieve this result.

Director, USERC, Dr. Durgesh Pant ,present as an expert said that a very extensive level of research on salads is a result of this achievement. In this way the University has opened new opportunities to explore for the world. Additional Director, Horticulture and Food Processing Dr. Ratan Kumar who came as an expert said that by making a recode of 521 varieties of salads Graphic Era has paved a new way for the students of Hotel Management. There are enough possibilities and opportunities for making salads from vegetables grown in Uttarakhand. This will encourage the cultivation of new varieties of vegetables.  Principal, I.H.M Dehradun, Dr Jagdeep Khanna said this record is a great motivational force for students. This feat will open  new opportunities for students in the field of Hotel Management. Well known Chef Rahul Wali said such events boost the self confidence and morale of the students to grow and exploit their potential.

Heading of the Team T-26, Chandramauli Dhaundiyal , Assistant Professor, HM said that more than 400 varieties of vegetables, fruits, spices, grains , meat products, milk products, herbs etc have been used in setting this record. He said that more than 60 out of these varieties of salads have been made in a traditional manner while the rest of them were self-made recipes.

The achiever’s team comprised  faculty members Mr. Amar Dabral,  Mr. Akash Rawat, Ms. Sonam Kapoor Semwal, Mr. Ravish Kukreti along with students Kunal Chauhan, Parth Kheda, Rahul Gupta, Laxman Singh Kathait, Dheeraj Singh, Neeraj Verma, Shubham Tariyal, Shivani Garg, Rahul Geharwal, Abhishek Gusain, Jaspal Singh Sodi, Archit Chug, Manoj Rawat, Saurabh Chandel, Alin Saxena, Dharampal Singh Yadav, Aman Sharma, Abhay Pokhriyal, Ramesha Bisht and Sunil Negi..

Prior to this the faculty members of Graphic Era University has set world record for teaching for the longest duration of seven days and seven nights along with setting another national record of making the longest ‘barfi’ . Out of these, two records have been included in Guinness Book of World Records while the other one has been included in the Limca Book of records. Dr. Sanjay Jasola, Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era Hill University along with other officials were present on this occasion.


Second Day of Grafest 2017

Harsh and Priyank Bagg First Position in Car and Boat Making Competition

The second day of Grafest, was filled with technical and managerial competitions . Cultural competitions were also a highlight of the event. In the final round “Magneto cart competition” Graphic Era Hill student Abhisheak Bounthiyal and Harshvardhan’s team bagged first prize and from the same university Abhisheak  Lingwal and Divyank  Rawat won the second prize. In “Junkyard war” students made boats from waste material. Graphic Era Hill won both the prizes, Priyank Nainwal and his team won the first prize by making the most innovative  boat and Ankit Singh and his team won the second prize. The winners were declared on the basis of the boats capacity and the time it took to float.

Gaurav Negi of Graphic Era Hill stood first and Shivani Bounthiyal of Graphic Era Hill stood second in the competition of making houses from blocks of wood. In “Robowar” Manas Upadhyay’s team of Graphic Era university won the first prize by defeating the Robots of another team which had a put up a remarkable performance .Abhijeet Roy , Gaurav Singh, Ankit Semwal and Vinod Negi were part of this team.In “Build the bridge” competition , the team of Shaad Khan, Dipesh Rawat and Faiz of Graphic Era university won the first prize while the second prize was bagged by the team of Graphic Era Hill university which comprised of Umesh Chandra , Utkarsh Rastogi , Alok  Bijalwan , Deepak Pandey , Anil Chandriyal and Aditya Mehra of the same university held the third position.

Out of the six quiz competitions in “Roll camera action” team of Aditi Sharma and Sachin Kala bagged the first position and team comprising Sudhanshu Bhatt and Sourav Dhyani from Graphic Era Hill University. In “Mason vs Engineer” competition Gaurav Chandana and Arbab Gussain from Graphic Era stood first while there was a tie for the second position between the team of Asad Israil and Apoorv Gupta and another team of Anurag Chandra and Anshul Sekhar .

Arush Gandotra and Vibham Chautrvedi in “Sportsmania” , Priyanshi Singh and Shivangi Saraswat in “Fandom war” , Ankita Agarwal and Vidushi  Sharma in the “Warbill” war and Shubham Budakoti and Shweta Arora in “Fun with cartoon” competition won the first prize. Team of Shreshta Singhal in “Brandwar” competition , team of Abha Ghai and Shikhar Gulati in “Recycle and Reuse” , Milind Sharma in “Shipwreck” and Rahul in “Cleave less quiz” bagged first position. Along with this many other competitions like bandwar , beat boxing , street play and dances were appreciated by the audience. Students group “Rhythm Slave” showcased the life of martyr Chandra Sekhar Azad through their dance act.


Three famous DJ’s, perform in the single night!

The finale of the three day Grafest witnessed the pulsating music of DJ Van moon, DJ N.Y.K  and  Lost Stories, Thousands of students of Graphic Era University danced for long hours on the tunes of famous DJ artists The evening commenced with the special tunes of and the students were truly enthralled by of the performance . They  grooved on the tunes like ,  “I was five, and she was six, we rode on horses, made of sticks…). ‘I know sometimes things may not always make sense to you right now, but hey, what Daddy always tell you? Straighten up little soldier…’

The artists of Lost Stories  DJ Group through their popular tunes entertained the audience and kept the students in the state of rapture. Thousands of students grooved on their famous numbers ( I know I could lie but I’m telling the truth, wherever I go, there is a shadow of you, I know I could try looking for something new… and you got to go and get angry at all of my honesty, you know I try but I don’t do too well . The songs of lost stories had a magical impact on the students and the students kept dancing for hours.

DJ N.Y.K enthralled the audience by their famous numbers (Tennu kala chashma jachda ae, jachda ae gore mukhde de and Inna sona tennu kyun rab ne banaya, ava java te mai yara nu manava). Having performed in more than 50 countries, Lost  Stories and N.Y.K DJ have  won the hearts of the youngsters.

The charisma of style and voice mesmerized Graphic Era

The students tapped their feet on the songs of Farhan Akhtar
Dehradun,22 April. The famous film actor and singer Farhan Akhtar forced the audience to dance their feet off through his music and style in Graphic Era today. The second evening of Grafest 2017 saw Farhan Akhtar performing live. Farhan Akhtar specially won the hearts of the audience through his songs from his movies Rock On, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Bhagh Milkha Bhagh.

Thousands of students eagerly waited since the evening to see and hear Farhan Akhtar in the Graphic Era campus. On the special demand of the audience he sang back to back songs. After hearing his song from Rock On - Tum ho to gata hai dil, tum nahi to geet kaha, tum ho to hai sab hasil, tum nahi to kya hai yaha… the students began to tap their feet.

The audience was spell bound by Farhan Akhtar’s song from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - Na mai samjha. Na mai jana, jo bhi tumne mujhse kaha hai Senorita, magar phir bhi na jane kyun sunke acha laga hai… and the song from Bhag Milkha Bhag – Zinda hai to pyala pura bhar le, kancha foote choora kanch karle, zindagi ka ye ghada le, ek saans me chadha le, hichkichiyo me kya hai marna… was also apprecaited by the audience. Even after being tired, the students still kept dancing.

They also loved the song – Meri laundary ka ek bill, ek adhi padhi novel, ladki ka phone number, mere kaam ka ek paper, mere tash se heart ka king… from Rock on. He also sung another song- Mere yaar sun le, sun le, dhundh raha tha ek nayi duniya, mere yaar sun lo, sun lo, vo anjani raaho me tha, vo lehron ki bahon me tha … from the same film.

The annual fest Grafest 2017 began with interesting technical competitions today. On the first day, competitions like Bridge making, Robo War, making parachutes and bridges was organized in the campus. Along with this various cultural and managerial events also enthralled the audience.
