Roop Durgapal
B.Tech (Batch 2002-2006)

If engineering were a religion, it would be the 5th most popular religion in India, so much is the importance given to this stream of education. Like all ambitious students who want to make it good in job market, I graduated in B. Tech in the 2006 from Graphic Era Institute of Technology, then as the University was called. The campus  was huge,  situated against the backdrop of Rajaji National Park, it had a beautiful ambience.  During my initial days in the College I was made to sing and dance by my seniors by way of interaction, which was rather hilarious, but it all ended   well, with all of us becoming close friends
What was my experience of GEIT (now Graphic Era Deemed to be University)! This space will fall too small to write about the great experience I have had here.  I used to do things which would often land me up at the President’s office.  He would gently admonish me, I would promise to mend my ways. My parents were relieved when finally I completed my engineering in the regular four years time.
Despite having a very mischievous and prankster image I received the Best Student Award at the end of my degree program and I was crowned ‘Miss Freshers' in my first year. There were many magical moments, during the annual Grafest, when the whole university pulsated with music and dance. I got platform to showcase my skills and it was during such events that I actually figured out my innate talent in fine arts. It was here that the acting bug bit me and I am an actress today.
I may sound cliché that what ever I am today a great deal of it  I owe to my College

“Either I will come back after hosting the Tricolor, or I will come back wrapped in it, but I will be back for sure”.  This feeling of patriotism was there in my soul since my childhood.  My Grandfather was an army general and so I wanted to continue the family tradition and follow in my grandfathers’ footsteps and make sure that his legacy lives on forever.
While in school schooling I  took NDA examination  and unfortunately I didn’t clear my exam. I joined  B.Tech program in  Graphic Era University. I was fortunate to be taught by faculty  who were actively pursuing research in several areas and working in  labs . I used to attend their lab classes regularly and this enhanced my technical skills .  I was joined the  NCC wing of the University . Along with the physical training I was also learning military discipline following the rules and regulations of the university in and around the campus. To my great luck the Indian Army selectors visited the University for  Army Campus recruitment drive I was selected after qualifying panel interview.
I  underwent a rigorous training at IMA (Indian Military Academy and passed out and received my commission in the Indian Army as Lieutenant .  This was my dream which was transformed into reality by Graphic Era Deemed to be University.

“He saw talent, he saw hope, he saw a future. He believed in me so much, I began to believe in myself.”  This is how your alma mater can create in you the dream of excellence and  the confidence to succeed.  As I embarked on my journey in this university, I found many centers of excellence laid out for students to enhance their ability and skills. I persuade my B. Tech from Graphic Era Deemed to be University and during those years I learnt various technologies which were provided through the high end  workshops, seminars, and domain experts.
In the first Campus placement Drive I was selected in Infosys. I was enjoying my job environment there and for my career growth one of my faculty members motivated me to pursue higher studies and he helped me to prepare for TOFEL in only 30 days and I passed the examination. I was offered the position of Software Developer Engineer by Amazon in USA. From that day on, I made it my mission to work as hard as I could student to pay back to my teachers who have constantly motivated me.  Graphic Era Deemed to be University faculty  would always stand their students and alumni  in good stead   whenever they need them.

There are many take-aways from my Graphic Era experience. The way lecturers and professors imparted knowledge in lecture halls and labs , the enjoyable moments of hostel life, industry visits, giving vent to inventive spirit in workshops and above all the peer influences, sometimes friendly, sometimes intimidating, but all leaving  positive effect, helped me to get to this position  of my career. Today when I am holding a high profile job in a multinational company I am sure that it was the opportunities provided by Graphic Era to interact with brilliant people and build relationships, which have stood me in good stead. I was encouraged to participate in activities at a cultural, literary, sport and scientific level in a highly creative environment.  In the hindsight, I believe that these experiences shaped me into self-disciplined, confident man who is ever ready to take any situation well in his stride in his.

Olam International

I am just like every other student who will run for joy and fun. The day comes in every life where one has to compete with time and mould himself to win against the challenges in his way towards desired destiny.

To work in abroad was a dream for me I filled this dream with the resources from  technical classes, personality development classes and mock interview classes held at GEU and hard work determination added to it. The general ability improved my aptitude, mock interviews reduced the fear to face the interview, there are also tests conducted during every week which made me analyze my practice. Therefore, I am really gracious that I had been in an institution which has given me the atmosphere and scope to excel in leadership, professional and other life skills.

My consistent effort and continuous support of our professors enforced me to Top rank in the university and I am glad that I am able to make my institution feel proud.

Before leaving our hands after graduation, GEU has showered opportunities to start our career as a part of MNCs. It has even trained us to make the best use of the opportunities and laid us in best suitable positions. Now, I am working in Olam International as Assistant Project Manager at South Africa.
