About The Department

Biotech is a subject which is really in a boom state. The $28 billion biotechnology industry, in a broad sense, uses organisms, cells, or molecules isolated from cells to make products or solve problems. Scientific breakthroughs in the 1970s allowed companies to capitalize on biotechnology techniques to make products in health care (medical), crop production and agriculture, non food (industrial) uses of crops and other products (e.g. biodegradable plastics, vegetable oil, biofuels) and environmental uses. Today, the industry's nearly 1,457 companies employ more than 179,000 people in research, development, manufacturing, sales and other types of jobs. The biotech industry is predicted to employ a large number of people, with hundreds of high-paying scientific and technical jobs, coming open every year. 

Department of Biotechnology at Graphic Era University has come into existence in year 2008.  Department is currently running B.Sc (Biotechnology), B. Tech (Biotechnology), B. Tech. (Biotechnology) Integrated MBA, M.Sc (Biotechnology),  and M.Sc (Microbiology). Apart from this, new course M.Tech (Biotechnology) is going to start from the year 2012-2013.

Department has total 15 well experienced and qualified faculties from IITs,NITs, DRDO, G.B Pant University, Delhi University, IVRI, Gurkul Kangari University and Jamia Hamdard along with  08 nonteaching staff and 21 research scholars. Faculties of Biotech department having national and international exposures are highly devoted to teaching as well as research. Department is also actively involved in organizing conferences, seminars, workshops and placements of students since its genesis.

Department of Biotechnology has separate well equipped laboratories such as Plant Tissue Culture, Animal Cell Culture, Recombinant DNA Technology, Microbiology laboratory and Sterilization facility etc. for students and research scholars and also got the laboratory approvals from different regulatory agencies as per the requirements like DBT, Government of India Approved Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Institutional Animal Ethics Committee etc. Several projects funded by Uttarakhand State Biotechnology Department (USBD) and Uttarakhand state council for science and technology (UCOST) are currently running in the department. Most of the students have been placed in reputed Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology companies like- Panacea Biotec. Ltd., Windlass Pharmaceutical Ltd, Parag Dairy etc. Students have also qualified many national level examinations such as CSIR-NET, ICMR, DBT and GATE and well placed in national and international research labs.

Synergising the Technical Quotients of its input whiz kids of the future, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) is the Hallmark of the Graphic Era University with its aesthetic environs and ascetic ambience symbolizing peace, tranquility and wisdom. The Faculty of 200 plus is drawn from IITs, BITS, NITs, reputed Army Institutes and good technical Institutes. There is an enviable vibrancy and plethora of activities to keep the students vigilant on acquiring technical prowess and the leadership role.

MBA

Our MBA program model combines a traditional but highly focused curriculum with a “shadow curriculum” of additional workshops, seminars & developing small-group learning experiences that are immersive, field-based, and action-oriented.  

We expect our students to immerse themselves wholly in the program during its 2 years. This immersion keeps them constantly moving from classroom to the field and sends a valuable signal to employers.

Our MBA program not only deliver the solid knowledge of traditional functions like finance, marketing, strategy etc. but also imparts intangible personal skills – ability to use data in a persuasive manner, lead teams & projects effectively and make an immediate impact.

Simply teaching theory in traditional classroom setting would not produce graduates with these intangible skills.

Leadership Programme:

After joining, all students go through this programme which inculcates a spirit of team play and leadership through a series of lectures, discussions, workshops sessions. The programme also facilitates the development of vital skills like effective listening and communication, presentation, team building, assertiveness and problem solving. These soft skills are essential to become a successful leader.

Professional Workshops - These workshops are like intense executive courses which might run by a corporate partner if it perceived that students have deficient skills in an area like Six Sigma, Project Management, M&A etc.

Learning Labs – Labs provide concentrated insights about new & emerging technologies in E-Accounting, Managing cross cultural teams, IT including E-Commerce, New Product Development (NPD) etc.

Language Learning:

We believe the experience of learning a second language is a vital part of becoming a truly global business leader. Leaders who are fluent in one or more languages are increasingly important asset to their companies.

Summer Internship Programme:

From June to August after the first year of MBA, students have the opportunity to put their learning into practice while working in a new industry, job function or organization.

Majority of the faculty members of the department of computer applications are engaged with research and project works at par with information technology domain of today’s knowledge based cosmopolitan society.

Here students are taught about how they can be a good journalist.  Along with the syllabi which include all the crucial aspects of Mass Communication like Cyber Media, FM, Radio, Media Law, Graphic Design, Reporting , Anchoring etc. , the students are developed with the analytical approach so as to understand the important aspects of news creation.

Searching of News is the essence of journalism , that is the reason why students here are taught about how to search for the news, make the news, edit it and finally telecast it. For the same purpose students of the department are associated with channels like DOORDARSHAN, where every week they telecast their programme under the supervision of Mr. Subhash Gupta, Head of Department, and the learn the various technicalities of the profession.

In recent future the department is also planning to release a newspaper from the department in which all the functions will be performed by the students themselves. Thus, here starts the journey for budding professionals in the field of Journalism and Mass communication.
