About The Department

Big Initiative in Core Sector Engineering Programs
Graphic Era Joined hands with Tata Technologies, To Nurture Future Ready Engineers,

Graphic Era University joined hands with TATA Technologies Ltd in the initiative for “Building the next age Engineering Professional” through Industry Collaboration for Engineering Programs specifically in core sector Engineering disciplines like Mechanical, Automobile, Electronics and Electrical. Over the past few years, Tata Technologies as a company has focused on Education sector with an objective of partnering with key Universities & Institutes to create the Industry-ready engineers that can be part of the global talent pool. These efforts are focused on improving the employability of fresh graduates by training them on the skills and competencies required by Industry through simulation based course modules and Industry environments.

As part of this unique initiative, Graphic Era has taken support from TATA Technologies for engineering programs currently offered at Graphic Era University and Graphic Era Hill University. Under this initiative, Tata Technologies has been assisting Graphic Era in setting up high end “Centers of Excellence” in their campuses with huge financial investment partly supported by Tata Technologies. These Industry simulated environments will give exposure to students to the latest cutting edge technologies in Industry. Also, the students will have access to an online learning platform for unique set of Industry oriented engineering and management course modules.

Moreover, subject and technical experts from Tata Technologies are directly interacting with Graphic Era students giving them first hand exposure of Industry technology and advance skill requirements. These advanced labs will be useful in boosting the research and consultancy in core sectors of the engineering. 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a diverse range of meticulous academic programs designed to prepare undergraduate and postgraduate students for the challenges and opportunities that abound in modern technology and society. Our students' ultimate destinations include industry, research, public service, and academia, and this degree provides skills, knowledge, and experience that will help them become leaders in these careers. Department has well experienced and qualified faculties from National University of Singapore, IITs, NITs, IISC etc. alongwith non teaching staff. Faculties of ME/AME department having national and international exposures are highly devoted to teaching as well as research. Department is also actively involved in organizing conferences, seminars, workshops and placements of students.

The Department offers various B. Tech Programs with industry specialization in Centre of Excellences established and supported by TATA Technologies which combines a broad-based education in the engineering sciences with project-based laboratory and design subjects to give graduates a strong grounding in quantitative, problem-solving, design, and communications skills. Our M. Tech Programs with industry specialization and Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering creates a community of top-notch scholars by bringing together faculty members and graduate students with a common interest in innovation, creativity, and advanced professional study. Presently department is active in various thrust areas of research some of them are Finite Element Analysis, Mechanical Vibration, Soft Computing & Response surface Modelling, Vibration &Acoustics, Bio-Mechanics, Material Science, Advanced Manufacturing, Modelling & Simulation, Numerical Methods.

The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructural facilities in thrust areas. It has advanced laboratories of CAM and robotics, Thermal Engineering, Fluids Engineering, Materials Science and Material Testing, Modeling and Simulation and Microwave processing of Materials, latest tools in the work shop, welding shop and carpentry. It also has advanced computing labs with software in computer Graphics, Scientific Computations, Finite Element Analysis and Modeling.

Faculty members and students regularly attend technical seminars and workshops organized by various technical institutes, and many of them have presented papers in National and International conferences and seminars. Students regularly attend training programmes and participate in competitions organized by various institutes. Students have also qualified many national level examinations such as CSIR-NET, GATE, etc and are very well placed in National and Multi-national companies.

The vision of the department is to be regionally, nationally and internationally recognized in providing Mechanical Engineering education, leading to well qualified Engineers who are Creative, Ethical, Environmental friendly, Self-esteemed and successful in Research.

Mission

The mission of the department is to educate, prepare, inspire, and mentor students to excel as professionals at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for leadership roles in the fields of mechanical engineering and to conduct research for the benefit of society.

M1: Imparting quality education to the students and enhancing their skills to make them globally competitive engineers.

M2: Maintaining vital, state-of-the-art research facilities to improve its students and faculty with opportunities to create, interpret, apply and disseminate knowledge.

M3: To develop linkages with world class R&D organization and educational institutions in India and abroad for excellence in teaching, research and consultancy practices.

M4: To produce ethical, motivated and competent engineers capable of solving current problems and envisaging and developing new technologies beneficial to society.

 

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1: To enable students apply concepts of mathematics, science and engineering to Mechanical Engineering.

PEO2: To acquaint students with a strong base in the fundamentals of engineering necessary to formulate, solve, analyze and evaluate simple and complex engineering problems, and prepare them for higher studies and research.

PEO3: To inculcate effective communication skills, ethics, leadership qualities in students for a successful career in relevant industries to serve the society, industry, scientific community and the nation.

PEO 4: To develop the ability in students to engage in lifelong learning, research and development, and entrepreneurship in an optimized, professional, dedicated and ethical manner ensuring environmental sustainability for the benefit of society on the whole.

 

Program outcomes (POs)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PO1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

 

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

PSO1: The mechanical engineering graduates will be able to perform design and analysis of mechanical systems using industrial modeling and simulation tools.

PSO2: The mechanical engineering graduates will be able to do research / pursue higher studies in the field of machine design, fluid mechanics, materials science, thermal science, production, industrial engineering, automation and mechatronics.

PSO3: The mechanical engineering graduate will be able to pursue a successful career in industries in the areas of manufacturing, design, quality, automation, operation and maintenance and serve the nation and society.

Career Prospects

Mechanical engineers provide efficient solutions to the development of processes and products, ranging from small component designs to extremely large plant, machinery or vehicles. They can work on all stages of a product, from research and development to design and manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning.

Most industries rely on a form of mechanical systems and mechanical engineering is thought to be one of the most diverse of all engineering disciplines. There are employment opportunities available in a wide range of sectors, such as the manufacturing, power, construction, etc. Mechanical engineers can also be involved in the management of people and resources, as well as the development and use of new materials and technologies.
