About The Department

Department of Biotechnology at Graphic Era University came into existence in the year 2008.  The Department is currently running 3 undergraduate programs: B. Tech. Biotechnology, B.Sc. (H) Biotechnology and B. Sc. (H) Microbiology. Apart from this, the department also offers 3 post graduate programs like M. Tech. (Biotechnology), M.Sc. Biotechnology and M. Sc. Microbiology besides a Ph. D. Program.

Department has total 12 well experienced and qualified faculties from IITs, NITs, JNU, DRDO, G.B Pant University, Delhi University, IVRI, Gurkul Kangari University and Jamia Hamdard along with  08 nonteaching staff. Faculties of the department have national and international exposure and are highly devoted to teaching as well as research. Department is also actively involved in organizing conferences, seminars, workshops and placements of students since its genesis.

Department of Biotechnology has separate well equipped laboratories such as Plant Tissue Culture, Animal Cell Culture, Recombinant DNA Technology, Microbiology laboratory and Sterilization facility etc. for students and research scholars and also got the laboratory approvals from different regulatory agencies as per the requirements like DBT, Government of India Approved Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Institutional Animal Ethics Committee etc. Faculty members from the department have completed 3 externally funded projects and 4 projects are ongoing. There projects have been funded by agencies like Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology (UCB), Uttarakhand state council for science and technology (UCOST), Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India etc. Department has filed 3 patents and 2 PCT’s. Most of the students have been placed in reputed Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology companies’ like- Biocon, Ranbaxy, Pfizer, Panacea Biotech., Genpact, etc. Students have also qualified many national level examinations such as CSIR-NET, GRE and GATE and well placed in national and international research labs. Students have also secured admissions in foreign countries like USA (University of Massachusetts Amherst, Ohio State University, University of California Fresno), Australia, South Korea and Taiwan.

  • Eligibility:

    Master’s Degree from any AIU/UGC/AICTE recognized University/ Institutions or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in the fields of study notified from time to time by the University. A minimum of 55% marks or CGPA of 5.5 on a 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (50% marks or CGPA of 5.0 on a 10 point scale for SC/ST candidates).

  • Admission Procedure:

    Admissions are made on the basis of GATE/NET/SLET scores or written test followed by interview by the Department concerned.

    Applications for admission to Ph.D programmes in various departments of our university will be invited in the month of May/June of the current year.
