About The Department
Department of Hotel Management has world class physical infrastructure. We have huge & well equipped Kitchen labs and a restaurant with formal setting. Front Office Lab and a House Keeping Lab are especially designed to provide proper training and formal industrial environment to our students. Our spacious, airy and standardized lecture theaters and technically equipped modern conference halls and practice rooms provide students a chance to get education of global standards in their native country.
We use most modern teaching aids like LCD projectors & OHP’s. Department also has a separate placement cell which is actively devoted to timely and quality placements and selection of students in various hospitality brands of global repute.
This very department of the university has one of finest intellectual capital in the city. Faculty here, with their expertise and wide experience in industry as well as in academics imparts quality education to the students.
The Department of Hotel management runs full-time courses, offering Certificate in Hotel and Hospitality Management, Undergraduate Degrees, and Research Degree leading up to attainment of a Doctorate. In the meticulously designed curriculum as prescribed by UGC – CBCS Scheme is followed; an equal amount of emphasis is laid on the Theoretical and Practical aspect of Hospitality Studies. The Practical session takes the form of ‘Workshops and Live Demonstrations’ that allow the students to attain the widest possible exposure to practical consideration of working in the Hospitality Industry while learning the intricacies of a multifaceted trade. The department periodically organizes activities /workshops on – Bartending skill, Flower arrangement skills,Intra departmental culinary competitions, Bakery skills, Theme lunches, Front office role play sessions and quizzes.
Training and Placement achievements
The department has placed its students in eminent hospitality organizations and the alumni of GEU –SOHMH are placed nationally and internationally in senior positions. The Students of BHM are trained & placed at the leading chain of hotels such as Marriott, Hilton, Oberoi, Taj, ITC, Trident, Crown Plaza, The Lalit, The Grand etc.
Internship programme is 18-22 weeks in the major departments of hotel like Front Office, Food Beverage Service, Food Production and Housekeeping. Students upon the successful completion of the industrial exposure, specialize in one major & minor stream (of their choice) by the concerned faculty and head of the department.
Value education activities
The students continuously attain a wide variety of exposure to Methods and Theory taught during the weekly schedules. Furthermore, other than their Theoretical and Practical classes, the students attend focused Personality Development Programmes (PDPs), Classes for sports activities, Seminars, Professional Communication Classes, French-Language classes, Chinese-Language classes and Workshops on Bartending, Mobile Etiquettes and many more similar Industry-Experience increasing processes. Department organizes special guest lectures, focussed seminars and workshops to sharpen the skills and practical knowledge.
Research and publication
The department has organized international and national conferences. The departmental faculties have published various books and research papers on hospitality and tourism trade in various national and international research journals and conferences.
